Just two objects comprise this glassware collection--a candle lantern and a vase--but what gems they are. Designed for iittala by Finnish designer Harri Koskinen, both works of art are mouth-blown in Finland in a modern, cylindrical shape cinched inward about two-thirds of the way up. Available in clear or a blueberry blue tint, the open-based lantern holds a tealight on a metal circle at the cinched waist, illuminating a room, as Koskinen describes, as "light placed upon a pedestal." Slighter taller at 8-1/2 inches, the vase features a closed base, of course, to retain water for fresh flowers, and is available in opaque white as well as clear and blueberry blue. Either sculptural objet d'art makes a delightful gift for the admirer of modern Scandinavian design. Washing the glass by hand is recommended.
